The Possibilities Are Endless

If you have rooms that are hard to heat and cool, an older home that does not have a ducted heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system, or would like to improve the indoor climate of a single room, a ductless mini-split AC can solve the problem. Ductless units provide conditioned air to a room or zone without using ducts. There are several advantages to ductless systems in both residential and commercial settings.

Easy Installation

Ductless HVAC system installation is simple and can usually be completed in one day. An indoor blower cassette is mounted on a wall or ceiling, and a compressor is installed outside. Several cassettes can be connected to one compressor. The indoor and outdoor components are connected by a conduit containing electrical wiring and refrigerant and condensate lines. A 3-inch hole is cut in a wall to allow the conduit to pass through.

Flexibility

If you have a room that is difficult to reach with an existing ducted system, mini-split ACs can be used independently. In addition, they can be used in outbuildings, garages or add-ons where installing ducts is not practical. Each cassette has its own temperature controls, allowing different settings for each room or zone.

Ductless systems are available as either air conditioners or heat pumps. Because heat pump systems provide both heating and cooling, a separate furnace is not needed for indoor comfort in the mild Las Vegas winters.

Energy-Efficient

The Department of Energy estimates that ductless units reduce cooling costs by up to 30 percent and heating costs by approximately 50 percent. Ducted systems typically lose up to 30 percent of the conditioned air passing through them. Because there are no ducts in a mini-split system, no conditioned air is lost. In addition, a mini-split can be turned off when you leave a room without affecting the comfort of those in other rooms.
